Hong Kong is one of the most impressive cities in the world to photograph. The city is visually stunning, with soaring skyscrapers, lush green mountains, and an expansive harbor filled with boats and islands. Hong Kong also has an efficient metro and ferry system, which makes getting around to the see the sights easy and fun.
Here are my top five places to photograph in Hong Kong:
1. Innovation Tower
This is an avant-garde building designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and located on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. The building houses the School of Design for The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the exterior looks like a space-age masterpiece. The interior is equally impressive and features skylights, floor to ceiling windows, and soaring escalators.
2. Choi Hung Building
This is a colorful housing project located on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. Even the metro station has vibrant rainbow colors along the walls. The Choi Hung building façade looks like a Pantone palate and it has an equally colorful basketball court in the foreground, which makes for an interesting photo shoot.
3. IFC Building
This is one of the tallest buildings in Hong Kong and has a free observation deck with prime views of Hong Kong Island and the Victoria Harbour.
4. Lantau Island
A visit to Hong Kong is not complete without seeing the beautiful islands off the coast of the city, including Lantau Island. Lantau offers hiking trails, peaceful mountainside, and the Big Buddha. The Buddha statue, also known as “Tian Tan Buddha” is one of the tallest in the world. To get there, ride the cable car called “Ngong Ping 360”, which takes you on a thirty-minute ride to the Buddha.
5. Victoria Peak
For the best bird’s eye view of the city, head up to Victoria Peak. This world-famous observation point is on the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island, at 552 meters tall. To get there, take the historic tram, hike, Uber, or taxi to the top. The top of the peak features a mall with many restaurants where you can take in the scenery. Be sure to visit on a clear day, where you can see the harbor all the way to Kowloon.
