Hotels We Love: Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina, Switzerland

Located in the quaint town of Pontresina, Switzerland, the Grand Hotel Kronenhof is one of the most magical places to stay in Switzerland. Mountain views exist at every turn, glaciers and hidden valleys of rushing rivers mesmerize you and the warm and friendly service makes you feel right at home.

With a history dating back to 1848, the hotel will teleport you to a different time and place because it’s truly something out of an old film.

Rooms
In contrast to the traditional aesthetic of the hotel, the rooms are chic, modern, light and airy. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the mini library, which made for the perfect work space with views of the mountains facing my desk through the window.

Restaurants

The Grand Restaurant
The restaurant definitely lives up to its name because every inch of this room where breakfast and dinner are served, is indeed grand.
Dress code: no shorts or jeans.

Le Pavillon
The beautiful mountain views from this casual restaurant aren’t the only thing that made it my favorite. We had an impeccable, healthy lunch paired with a traditional platter of the most delicious Swiss cheeses and meats.

Kronenstübli
We loved the unique experience at this 1 Michelin star restaurant which is super cozy thanks to the Swiss – pine paneling everywhere. We got to try the exclusive dining experience of the The Rouen-style duck being prepared table side. It was incredibly delicious!
Dress code: smart casual.

Kronenhof Bar
The classic bar is the perfect place to enjoy an apertif with friends before and after dinner.

Spa
The stunning spa is over 21,528 ft² and features one of the most picturesque pool views of the alps.

Things to do in the surrounding area

Get lost in the streets of Pontresina
The mountain town has an altitude of approximately 6,000 feet and is incredibly picturesque. It’s just a 5 mile drive outside of the popular town of St. Moritz where Grand Hotel Kronenhof’s sister hotel, the Kulm is located.

Local Laret Market
Every Thursday, locals and tourists alike come together to enjoy the local market in the streets of Pontresina. The market offers everything from  jewelry,  toys, local goodies and delicious foodie options such as raclette bread, grilled sausage and more.

Diavolezza
G
oing up to the top of Diavolezza by cable car was absolutely one of the many highlights of my time in Switzerland. Then mountain top has an altitude of 2,973 metres (9,754 ft) and the views on the way up are absolutely breathtaking. The site is  just a 15 minute scenic ride from the hotel.
