Dame Traveler Insider Guide To Dubai

Dubai has become one of the fastest growing cities in the world and whether you’re just passing through on a long layover or staying awhile, this is a city has tons to offer. Here are some of my insider tips from my visits to Dubai.

Where to Eat

Zahr El Laymoun UAE
I stumbled upon Zahr El Laymoun UAE while waiting for the fountain show outside of the Dubai Mall and its charm instantly pulled me in. The restaurant has outdoor seating and has a beautiful view of the Burj Khalifa. If you try this place out, please do yourself a favor and order the fresh pomegranate juice, it was to die for.

Where to Shop

The Dubai Mall
Dubai LOVES malls so if you do too, you’re in the right city. It’s also home to one of  ten largest malls in the world, the Dubai Mall.

Souk Madinat Jumeirah

For a more traditional shopping experience, visit the Madinat Jumeirah souk. it’s also a hotel and has an incredible view of the Burj Al Arab. The souk is located in the midst of traditional Emirati architecture and offers everything from gold to gorgeous fabrics.

What to Do and See

Burj Al Arab
Pure luxury and architecturally fascinating, the fourth tallest hotel in the world, the Burj Al Arab is a must see and can be seen from many viewpoints in Dubai. My favorite views are from the Madinat Jumeriah and Jumeriah beach.
Burj Khalifa Observation Deck
Soaring at more than 1,800 feet, the Burj Khalifa currently wins the award for tallest building and there’s an observation deck with an incredible view of the city on the 125th and 148th floors.

*Bear in mind that tickets sell out quickly so it’s wise to purchase them online in advance.

Dubai Marina
Take a stroll along the Dubai marina where you will find lots of fancy yachts, gorgeous skyscrapers, shops and restaurants.

Where to Stay
If you’re a sucker for views such as myself, then you know all too well the research process that goes into finding a hotel with an epic view. I discovered the Shangri-La Dubai on Instagram and immediately fell in love with their birds eye view of the Burj Khalifa from the 42nd floor.

The hotel is located on the bustling Sheikh Zayed Road and is central enough with easy access to many of the sights in Dubai. Perk: they offer a complimentary shuttle that transports you to and from the Dubai mall.

It’s a resort style hotel with an incredible pool, also with views of the Burj Khalifa.

Upgrading to a Horizon level is well worth it, offering extra perks such as access to a full gym, a comfortable lounge offering breakfast plus afternoon refreshments, as well as a full breakfast and private check in.

The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well designed.

Dining at the hotel is a wonderful experience. I was especially impressed with the full breakfast buffet at the Dunes Cafe, offering a variety of cuisines from Middle Eastern, Asian, American, etc.

As for dinner, there are two options, a Vietnamese cuisine at Hoi An or Shang Palace, Chinese cuisine. I chose Shang Palace and enjoyed a pleasant dinner with excellent service.
